The second part of a series of live discussion and music events looking at memory. It’ll be held at Barcelona’s El Born Cultural Centre on 23rd November.

There’ll be a live set from Pye Corner Audio and a discussion with cofounder of Ghost Box Records, Julian House (aka The Focus Group). He’ll also be showing some rarely seen Ghost Box films and DJ-ing.

In Another Room 7″ EP by Paul Weller and other new releases for 2020

In Another Room is a four track 7″ EP by very special guest, Paul Weller. On Ghost Box, Weller finds the perfect home to explore his interest in experimental tape music and early electronics. The four tracks here though are more than just experiments and build a subtly melancholic atmosphere from field recordings and melodic instrumental fragments. Previews and pre-orders available in December, released late January 2020.

Also coming in 2020 on Ghost Box:

A new album by much missed retro futurists, Plone.

The long awaited sixth LP from Belbury Poly.

And later in the year follow up albums from Toitoitoi and Beautify Junkyards.

We’re also hoping to bring you more 7″ inch EPs in a similar format to In Another Room, featuring special guests and collaborations from Ghost Box regulars.

DROWNED IN SOUND
“… an M1 retread of Autobahn undone by the spectre of sleep.”

MOJO
“…the kind of memory-sprites often evoked by Ghost Box releases, this is music that continually slips away from you even as you chase down its essence.

UNCUT

“…a completely immersive experience – it is impossible to skip a track – and a fine achievement.”
QUIETUS
“So much of what we love about Ghost Box is encapsulated here, on this supremely evocative piece of psychogeographic storytelling”

“So much of what we love about Ghost Box is encapsulated here, on this supremely evocative piece of psychogeographic storytelling” Electronic Sound

“…induces a kind of sacred tipsiness.” Caught by The River

“If only the children of today and tomorrow could be encouraged to express themselves through movement and dance to Ghost Box number 33. For Chanctonbury Rings encourages magic to occur.” Concrete Islands

A spoken word and music project by writer Justin Hopper and folk musician Sharron Kraus. It also features Ghost Box’s own Belbury Poly. Based on live performances of Hopper’s 2017 book The Old Weird Albion.

The album is a blend of folk, electronic music, poetry, prose and environmental sound. Kraus’s electro-acoustic soundscapes and songs interweave with Hopper’s rich, intimate narration. With Belbury Poly contributing music and production throughout and book-ending the work with a memorable theme tune.

Beautiful design throughout by Julian House with sleeve notes by Justin Hopper.

A Midsummer Night’s Update

Preparations are in full swing for The Midsummer Night’s Happening and state51 are working flat out on set dressing and installation. There’s a few exciting additions to the line up too…

Steve Beresford will now be performing on upright piano with the Kirchin Tape Lab. Jonny Trunk and Robin the Fog will be playing out reels created by Basil Kirchin for improvisational performances just like this.

João Branco Kyron of Beautify Junkyards will be coming over from Lisbon to give us one or two Tropicalia flavoured DJ sets in Pan’s Garden.

Barrie Cadogan of Little Barrie (and pretty much everyone else) will be joining Soundcarriers to provide some extra guitar and voice to their improvised set accompanying Julian House’s psychedelic film.

And Jonny Trunk and Wisbey are promising some kind of Wheel-of-Fortune device.
